Team Seven Axis Motorsport ventured down the Hume over the weekend for round 2 of the MX National at the ACT Motorcycle Club.
After a virtual non existintent off season training programme, due to two operations on his ankle, Mike Addison once again showed all why he is not to be written off a force to be reckoned with in the 2009 series qualifying in 7th.
With a format of 4 x 15 minute moto's Addison began race 1 in 9th position at the first corner. With blistering speed he quickly moved past Suzuki's Cameron Taylor and set off after Andrew MacFarlane. On lap 3, Addison went by MacFarlane with the two banging bars several times over the next couple of laps before Addison dropped the bike after clipping a tree stump. The mishap put him back into 15th spot. With the race at the 10 minute mark, Addison picked up the bike and set about chasing down the pack. On the final corner he passed Full Throttles Brent Landman to finish in 8th.
Race 2 Addison came down hard in corner two after avoiding a braking rider. He was in 4th spot at the time.
Despite a severely swollen hand and wrist from the race 2 incident, Addison was 12th into the first corner but quickly pushed his way up to 7th and began battling with Boyd and MacFarlane. The flying Cody Mackie got pass him halfway thru the race and then held steady for to finish in 6th.
Race 4 was pretty much the same as race 3 heading into the first corner in 12th but by the end of lap 1 Addison had made his way thru to 8th. he began battling wth Craig Anderson for the next few laps unitl he finally got an opportunity with u gutsy pass thru the whoops section to move into 7th where he stayed for the remainder of race 4 to finish 9th overall.
Michael Addison says it was unfortunate that his line was cut off going into turn 2. “I held my line going into turn 2 getting ready to pass a group of riders when one of them backed right off and drifted into my line with no time for me to change direction. My bike was pretty badly bent, but the boys managed to straighten it out ready for moto 3&4. I feel happy with my fitness and with 3 weeks until the next race I am confident we will be better prepared coming into Toowoomba. I have a great support crew around me now. Thanks Mark and Hoppo, Derek and Mat for pulling this off in short notice, to my brother Adam whom works tirelessly for me in the leadup to and on raceday and to a few personal sponsors – Sullen, Oakley, Fox, Alpinestars and Hammerhead without this support none of this would be possible.
20 year old Wade Thompson continues to go from strength to strength after being a very late inclusion as the Pro Lite rider to Team Seven Axis one week out from round 1.
Thompson had a poor start to race 1 being 31st into the first corner. By the 10minute mark Thompson had moved into 16th and was looking to chase down the next pack. He caught the pack of 5 riders at the 20 minute mark and started picking them off one by one over the remaing 10 minutes to finish 12th.
Race 2 was a similar scenario to race 1 where Thompson came from 25th to be placed 16th at the halfway mark. He passed mxrads Digsy Anderson to move into 15th and then Potter. At the 22minute mark Thompson was in 12th position and then began the chase to Lewis Stewart. On the final lap Thompson went to pass Stewart but got caught on the back tyre of a slowe rider and went down. He quickly picked himself up and was able to stay in 12th to the finish to give him a credible 12th overall.
Wade Thompson is looking forward to advance into the top 10. “I am extremely happy at how Mark, Hoppo and is has pulled this team together in such a short time and cannot thank them enough for providing me the platform to go racing. Thanks also to Derek for Although it is a privateer team, I feel very strong in the Tech support area. I have a solid training programme this season and look forward to advancing my results. I’d also personally like to thank C&R imports for their support.
Team Manager Mark Haughton was reasonably chuffed with the days efforts. " Both these boys continue to perform beyond our expectations as due to recovering from operations and other circumstances beyond team control, neither of them has had any pre season training. Thompson today showed us his corner speed is gathering serious momentum and with some work to be done on his starts will most likely see Wade to be near the pointy end before too long. Addison just continues to amaze me with his ability to ride under duress and still achieve a decent result. All in all it was good days hustling and we look forward to Toowoomba with much excitement. We need to thank Dave Maddocks at Ficeda for increasing their support to Team Seven Axis Motorsports even further and the staff at Axis Motorpsorts."
Tech Crew Chief Andrew Hopson was happy to earn more valuable points heading into Round 3. “To gain a top 10 result with a DNF in the 2nd Pro Open Moto was a solid effort from Michael. The Team had a plan for the 15 min moto format and even though we failed to finish moto 2 we managed to get the bike back out there and continue our plan”
“Wade has not been on the bike for months prior to the Nationals and his riding continues to grow from strength to strength. His fastest lap time in the first moto was the 2nd last and moto 2 saw a similar result”
“We now have a few weeks to finalize our race plan for Toowoomba” |
